Remember that little grocery store in the TV series "Northern Exposure"? It wasn't just a store; it was also the town Post Office and a clearinghouse for shared information. Because of its small scale, the owner knew all kinds of details about everybody who walked in the door.
If only more digital-age businesses could be like that! But there's no way for sales and customer service reps who deal with hundreds or thousands of customers every month to memorize all the details needed to give personalized service. Today, small- to mid-sized businesses can take advantage of modular CRM features and rentable packages that can help manage complex, multi-channel customer relationships at a reasonable price.
