Dear Molly: I started my career in physical security, then moved to security consultant, law enforcement, and now private investigation. My career seems to be leading to the technology arena. I feel that the future is certainly here, and that Internet and corporate espionage is becoming more and more common. If you have any information on obtaining training in the security field, I would greatly appreciate it.

Molly says: Several times in the past few weeks I've talked about getting more information and training for various jobs in IT security, so if you scan through the Q&As for the last month, you'll pick up lots of information. Your background as a private investigator, however, brings up aspects of IT security that I haven't mentioned in previous columns.

Since you mentioned the word "espionage," let me give you a few Web sites where you can learn more about how computers are used in espionage and how computer systems are at risk. Dr. Myron Cramer from the Georgia Tech Research Institute has posted on the Web a thorough introduction to the topic of information warfare.

The New Technologies Web site has a lot of information about industrial espionage. New Technologies, a security consulting organization headquartered in Oregon, also offers training courses in computer forensics and security training. The Computer Security Institute offers IT security-related training and sponsors an annual Security Conference.
