With much of that deploymentnow over, today's focus has turned to more sophisticated networkfunctions like network monitoring.
Companies are often driven toimprove their network monitoring by the regulatory guidelines thatgovern their industries. This is especially true if you are in financialservices or healthcare. This article discusses network monitoring, andsome of the options that are available to small, medium and large-sizedorganizations.
The Basics
The three basicareas of network monitoring are:
Asset Management: Trackingand accounting for all network assets throughout their life cycles, frominstallation to removal;
Operations Management: Tracking ofnetwork activities, device readiness status, all current versions ofsoftware releases, areas/devices where software/hardware updates areneeded, and confirmation that all devices on the network areauthorized;
Change Control: Tracking, recording andauditing of all changes administered to the network and itsdevices.
